How Much Does Car Technical Inspection (Visite Technique) Cost in Cameroon?

"How much does the technical inspection cost?" is one of the most common questions among Cameroonian drivers — and one of the worst documented. Here are the approved tariffs, what makes them vary, and how to check that a certificate is genuine.

Approved tariffs by category

Technical inspection prices in Cameroon are not set freely by the centres: they are approved by the Ministry of Transport. The most recent schedule widely reported by the Cameroonian economic press took effect on 1 June 2022, after consultations with approved inspection companies and road-transport professional bodies.

• Private passenger vehicle: 17,900 FCFA including tax (up from 9,500 FCFA)

• Taxi: 4,900 FCFA

• Minibus: 15,500 FCFA

• Bus (Coaster type): 19,080 FCFA

On top of this, a 3,000 FCFA tax per inspection was announced to take effect on 1 January 2026.

These are the figures published at the time of writing. Official tariffs change: always confirm the price displayed at your approved centre before paying, and insist on a receipt.

Why the price doubled — and why it matters to you

The move from 9,500 to 17,900 FCFA for a passenger car was justified by the cost of computerising the process and by inflation. That computerisation has one direct benefit for buyers: an inspection certificate is now verifiable, which was never true of a simple stamped paper.

How to check a certificate is not fake

This is the part most buyers miss. The Ministry of Transport deployed a verification platform, CT-VERIF, reachable from the mintct.cm portal, which lets you confirm whether an inspection certificate is authentic.

If you are buying a used car and the seller produces a "brand new" inspection certificate, take thirty seconds to verify it. A fake certificate is not merely an administrative problem: it is a signal to examine the rest of the file very closely.

What the price does not cover

The fee covers the inspection, not the repairs. If your vehicle fails, you pay for the re-test and the work. That is where budgets break: a poorly prepared vehicle can cost several times the inspection fee to put right.

Inspection and used-car sales: who pays?

No rule says it must be the seller. In practice a car offered with a valid inspection sells faster and better — it is a sales argument as much as a formality. If you are selling, get it done: it removes an objection before it is raised. If you are buying, a valid certificate is reassuring but does not replace a mechanical inspection: the technical inspection checks compliance and safety, not clutch or gearbox wear.

Where to get it done
