Which Documents to Keep in Your Car in Cameroon (Roadside Checks)

In Douala, Yaoundé or on inter-city roads, roadside checks are part of daily life. Being in order saves you the fine, the impound and, above all, long arguments. Here is the complete checklist of documents to always keep in your car in Cameroon — plus our tips so you never forget one.

The 5 mandatory documents

1. The registration document (carte grise): it proves the vehicle is registered in your name. After a recent purchase, make sure the transfer of ownership is done.

3. The insurance certificate: it must be valid. Check the date at each renewal and keep the certificate visible. See our car insurance page.

5. The technical inspection: a valid inspection certificate proves the vehicle is roadworthy.

6. The vignette (road tax): proof that the annual vehicle tax has been paid.

7. The driving licence of the driver, valid and matching the vehicle category.

Useful extras to add

• An ID document (national ID card or passport).
