Used Hyundai Tucson, Santa Fe or Kia Sorento: Which Korean SUV for Cameroon?

Well equipped for the money, Korean SUVs are popular. Tucson, Santa Fe or Sorento: real prices from 38 listings, generations, the engine to watch and our verdict.

After Toyota, Korean SUVs are one of the largest groups on MotoNaMarket: on 11 October 2026 there were 14 Hyundai Tucsons, 12 Hyundai Santa Fes and 12 Kia Sorentos for sale, plus 6 Kia Sportages. Almost all are automatic petrols. Their selling point is well known: plenty of equipment for the money. But the three models do not serve the same use, and one family of petrol engines deserves real caution.

Three sizes, three uses

If you regularly carry more than five people, count the actual seats at the viewing: an advertised "seven-seater" is not always one. Our guide to used seven-seat SUVs compares other options.

For a comparable year, the three models are neck and neck, around 7.5 to 8 million FCFA for a 2010 to 2015 vehicle. The Sorento has the lowest overall median, which often makes it the best space-for-money choice. For a specific listing, see the price guides for the Tucson, the Santa Fe and the Sorento.

The shared weak point: Theta II petrol engines

Hyundai and Kia share a family of four-cylinder petrol engines, the Theta II (2.0 and 2.4). In some of them, machining debris left in the oil passages wore out the connecting-rod bearings early, sometimes until the engine seized. In the United States this led to mass recalls, set out in the Theta engine history: in 2017 Kia recalled more than 618,000 vehicles, including 2012 to 2014 Sorentos and 2011 to 2013 Sportages; Hyundai recalled 2013-2014 Sonatas and Santa Fe Sports; a further campaign in 2020 covered 2012 Santa Fes with the 2.4 engine.

In practice, on a petrol model from those years:

Not every model or year is affected — the diesels are not — and an engine replaced under a recall is actually an asset. But on a 2011 to 2019 petrol model, it is the first question to ask.

Gearboxes and diesels: what to know

Most models for sale have a conventional automatic. Some TL Tucsons with the 1.6 turbo use a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox: responsive, but sensitive to traffic jams. Slipping when pulling away or jolts in first gear are signs of wear (see repairing an automatic gearbox). On every automatic the fluid-change history matters: read our guide to automatic gearbox fluid changes.

The 2.2 CRDi diesel Santa Fes and Sorentos, common in Europe and Korea, remain rare on the site (one or two per model). They are robust but need a serious check of the injectors and emissions system.

Which one should you choose?

Whatever the model, book a pre-purchase inspection, and work out the cost of importing with the import duty calculator if you are weighing a purchase abroad: the 2.0 and 2.4 engines stay under 2,500 cc, so excise is 0% up to 12 years. If you are also considering a Chinese brand, our article on Chinese cars in Cameroon sets out the issues.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best used Korean SUV in Cameroon?

It depends on your use: the Tucson for town driving, the Santa Fe for long-distance comfort, the Sorento for the best space for the money and seven seats. For a comparable year their prices are close, around 7.5 to 8 million FCFA for a 2010 to 2015 model.

Which Hyundai and Kia models are affected by the Theta II engine problems?

In the United States, the recalls covered, among others, 2012 to 2014 Kia Sorentos and 2011 to 2013 Sportages, 2013-2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports and 2012 Santa Fes with the 2.4 petrol engine. Not every engine is affected, and the diesels are not: listen for knocking and ask whether the recall was done.

How much does a used Hyundai Tucson cost in Cameroon?

On MotoNaMarket listings on 11 October 2026, the median asking price was 10 million FCFA across all years, and 7.4 million for a 2010 to 2015 Tucson.

Does the Kia Sorento really have seven seats?

Often, but not always: depending on generation, market and trim, the Sorento comes with five or seven seats. Count the seats at the viewing rather than relying on the listing.
