Hiring with a driver transfers the driving risk, the parking and the route knowledge to the owner. It is the most common arrangement in Cameroon, and often the cheaper one once a day involves several stops or takes place in a city you do not know.
It is agreed in advance and varies by owner. Settle this, along with the driver's meals and accommodation for out-of-town trips, before confirming the booking.
Ask explicitly and get it confirmed. A vehicle hired with a driver should be covered for commercial use; a policy written for private use may not respond to a claim.
